American School high school diploma programs provide great flexibility to pursue a high school education. Parents of homeschool students find our paper-based or online curriculum fits their needs in educating their students, with a full spectrum of high school subjects at a reasonable cost. American School students who take either our correspondence courses or online high school courses can study online when and where it's convenient for them. In addition, they appreciate that our homeschool courses are completed at their own pace, whether that is faster or slower than a resident school.

Students wishing to earn our high school diploma while studying at home may choose from two high school programs—General High School and College Preparatory.  Students at resident schools who need to recover credits or who would like to take individual courses for personal enrichment may do either through our Independent Study Program.  Finally, homeschooled students who wish to take one or more of our courses to enhance an existing homeschool program may receive more information about that process by visiting our FAQ page.

All students benefit from an innovative curriculum of more than 100 subjects in traditional core courses such as English, math, science and social studies, as well as business, career and technical education courses, fine arts courses and world language courses.

All courses in our programs are taught by very experienced and capable instructors who have at least 24 hours of college credit in their subjects, with many of them having advanced degrees.  All instructors provide constructive, encouraging feedback on graded papers and exams and address their students by name in their comments.  It’s an example of how we personalize distance education for our students.

Students and their parents can be assured that the courses they are taking and the diplomas they earn are from a regionally accredited institution.  American School was the first correspondence school to receive accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA)—listed as a regional accrediting body by the U.S. Department of Education.  Today, American School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools/Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS), Accreditation International (Ai) and the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) and also is fully recognized as a non-public secondary school by the Illinois Board of Education.

These and our other academic credentials attest to the quality of instruction that we offer and are central to our mission of providing students with a top-notch high school education at a reasonable cost.  Indeed our tuition is generally much lower than other high schools that specialize in educating high school students at home.  Tuition includes all study materials and access to the Online Student Center, where students and guarantors can view academic records, sign up for e-mail notification of grades, download help sheets and access homework Web sites any time of the day or night.

When you are ready to enroll in our General High School, College Preparatory or Independent Study program, you can do so here.   You’ll feel confident knowing your student is taking interesting and affordable courses while earning an accredited diploma through one of the long-time leaders in distance education, American School.
